Dear SCS members,
On behalf of the SCS Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Zachary Slates as the new Executive Director of the Society for Classical Studies, effective 6 May 2024.
Zachary holds a Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law, a Master of Accounting from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilization from the University of Michigan. He has extensive experience in the nonprofit and educational sectors, particularly at membership organizations, and has demonstrated a strong record of transforming organizations to achieve sustainable growth. His expertise also includes producing talks, conferences, and symposia across a variety of academic disciplines in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The Board of Directors would also like to express our gratitude to Interim Executive Director, John Vitali, for his leadership during this period of transition. John’s last day in the office is 6 June 2024 and he will be working with Zachary over the next month to familiarize him with our operations and programming.
